Weekly Update 5.2.24

Hey everyone—hope you’re having a great week! This weekend we will finish up our series on Weeds! It’s a message on Help and Hope! It will be a great end to our series—you will want to be here!

I want to share something else very important to our church family. We have some great friends and partners around the world. One of our global partners is Missions of Hope in Kenya! Keith and Kathy Ham are longtime friends to many of us. Mary and Wallace Kamau are also very special friends. They have visited us many times. Their daughter Imani graduated from George Fox. So, we have many connections with Missions of Hope! A number of us have been there. Some multiple times. Our missions budget supports area 2 in the Mathare Valley Slum. We have children that our church sponsors as well.

As some of you know, there has been some serious flooding going on and it’s impacted the Mathare Valley—people that we know and care about. Mathare is the 2nd largest single story slum in the world. There is little to none infrastructure there. So a flood like this is even more devastating than normal. We’ve reached out to Missions of Hope and Keith and Kathy Ham.  Kathy says,”Our Kariobongi Center and the skills training were completely flooded and all the equipment ruined.  The kids are on school break, so we don’t have a complete picture, but to date we don’t think we lost any of them.  Even though there have been many deaths. They are checking for us on Area 2 yet. So NCC please be praying!”

Prayer is so important. But NCC family we believe we can do more to help Missions of Hope help families who have been devastated by this flood. I’m praying you will join us as one church, to let our brothers and sisters in Christ in Kenya know that as a church family—NCC stands with them during this time of need! NCC family we are committing 10,000 dollars for Missions of Hope from our Emergency Missions Fund. If there is need in Area 2 where we already work and have relationships with so many—it will go there. Then to the Kariobongi Training Center to rebuild it. We are also inviting YOU to help us match this 10,000 dollars. This weekend we are inviting all of our campuses to help us with a special offering to give toward this additional 10k.   We will have a tab on the drop-down menu on the give button on our app and website for Kenya Flood Relief.  We are working on in person options at each campus giving for this weekend. Thanks in advance for your help and heart!

Keep praying!
